Part payment of K55 million in school subsidy has been sent into school’s accounts late last week, following a month’s delay from the Treasury Department.
Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra said K122 million has been earmarked for the second quarter of which K55 million was paid last week to support schools.
He said they continue to receive additional funds and will release as part of the second quarter.
Treasury released the warrants but the department is still getting the funds slowly through the public accounts committee, where allocation of funds are made available.
Treasury has allocated K122 million for the term two quarter.
So far we have received K57 million including K20 million last week, and when we have few coming in we will add this together to put together for our next quarter payment.
Dr Uke Kombra
Out of K486 million earmarked for this year, the department has already released to school K123 million in February.
According to the government tuition fee subsidy policy 2021, parents are required to pay 50 percent of the parental contribution fee at the start of the school year with the balance expected to be paid before the end of term two.
The government is expected to pay its component before the end of term three, in September.
