The Papua New Guinea Defense Force will be sending its first female officer cadet for further training in New Zealand next year. She is Officer Cadet (OC) Mileona Saroa.

Force Commander Brig-Gen Francis Agwi said the defense force was happy to announce that for the first time it would be sending a female officer for further training.

After going through the recruiting process in September this year, OC Saroa was selected to undertake this training at the Officer Cadet School in Waioru. The one-year training starts in January.

New Zealand defense attache Lt-Col Richard Taylor acknowledged the decision by the PNGDF to send its first female officer cadet to train overseas.

New Zealand is always proud of its links with the PNGDF and this will only strengthen our ties.

Taylor

He welcomed OC Saroa on behalf of New Zealand, and joined Agwi in encouraging her to be proud of her achievement and to represent PNG with a “never-say-die” attitude and to come back as a commissioned officer.

OC Saroa, who hails from Saroa village, Central, thanked the PNGDF and New Zealand for picking her.

I am proud to be representing my country in this OC School in New Zealand, and I will give this training my best.
