Uni Open Centres get 14 New Staff

The University of Papua New Guinea’s open college has inducted 14 new staff members.

“The open college is an integral component in education at the higher level,” the university said in a statement.

“It caters for almost 10,000 students nation-wide through the flexible mode, which is in addition to more than 3,000 students it caters for conventionally. Its students are mostly school leavers and those already in the workforce who’d like to upgrade their skills.”

It said the new staff included the new directors for the Hela and Pomio university centers, its newest centers.

Open College Executive Director, Professor Abdul Mannan, said the recruitment of staff was to meet the growth in student numbers that the college continued to face.

He said the open college needed 84 staff members to effectively carry out its operations.
In welcoming the new staff, he reminded them of their responsibility.

“In our duties and responsibilities, we are not doing them a favor by serving them, they are doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.”
