College Lecturer Arrested in Connection to a Series of Robberies

A college lecturer at the Madang Teachers’ College (MTC) and her boyfriend have been arrested in relations to a series of robberies in Madang. It is reported that she was arrest in connection to an early morning robbery that was part of five planned robberies in the normally peaceful province.

Lucille Kawi Bade, 33, from Boiken in East Sepik and Brian Gela, 32, from Umin in Madang and also a first year student at the college were arrested and charged with one count of robbery with acts of violence and are currently detained at Jomba.

According to reports, Bade had hired the getaway vehicle used by armed men who robbed the Papindo store along Modilon Drive. They took over K200, 000.00 in cash and cheques. It is alleged that the robbers drove to Beibi boat stop where they boarded a motorised dingy and made off.

Madang Teachers’ College has been in the lime light recently for allegations of corruption against its staff.
