The Vice Chancellor of the University of Technology (Unitech), Dr. Albert Schram, has called on universities to look at ways of generating revenue to finance their operations while reducing costs. He said this at a breakfast hosted by the Lae Chamber of Commerce (LCC).
He said the challenge for universities in the country was to grow toward a sustainable model of financing. This means that the varsities would have to find ways to commercialize its assets and minimize cost including rationalizing the curriculum.
Meanwhile, President of the LCC, Alan McLay announced Unitech as the newest member of the LCC – a first for the university since its establishment in the 1970s. He said the move was a positive step because most of the graduates from the university end up being employed in the private sector.
The move is the VC’s attempt to forge closer relationships with the private sector.
