Teacher thanks all for hearing plea

A teacher reported in the Post-Courier for teaching without pay for three (3) years is thankful that her cry was heard.

Twenty-nine (29) year old Nellie Kusari who hasn’t received pay for three (3) years dropped a bombshell on unscrupulous education officials at Waigani who are swindling this young mother.

Her appeal to Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, and Teaching Service Commission (TSC) Chairman, Samson Wangihomie, has been heard.

I want to thank Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra and Chairman Mr Samson Wangihomie for immediately responding. As of today (Friday), I have been given a file number.

Ms Kusari to Post-Courier.

Dr Kombra and Mr Wangihomie, upon reading the newspaper last Thursday, had been in constant contact with Post-Courier to have copies of Ms Kusari’s documents.

They condemned the actions of a few Education officials that scammed her into paying them money.

They also gave assurance to have those crooked officers referred for immediate disciplinary actions.

I want the names of the officers who are doing this!

demanded a frustrated Chairman Mr Wangihomie after reading the story of Ms Kusari last Thursday’s Post-Courier.

The poor teacher was demanded some form of payment for paper work by as TSC and Education Department’s officers.

As per the transaction provided on Thursday, K1000 was transferred to the (named) TSC staff account. The following day the teacher was demanded another K4000 by that same officer.

Meanwhile, the Education Department’s staff collected K300 from the teacher last month.

A furious education secretary Dr Uke Kombra also made immediate contact with the Post-Courier requesting documents provided to Post-Courier by Ms Kusari.

We do not tolerate such behavior in the Education Department.

Dr Kombra

He gave his assurance that officers in the department involved in this unscrupulous dealings by collecting money from teachers will be dealt with.

Ms Kusari is a Science and Mathematics teacher in East Sepik, she has been teaching without pay since 2021.

This year alone, she has spent almost K3000 on deceitful officers demanding payments as conditions to assist her with her payroll matters.

She is from Okapa in Eastern Highlands Province and graduated from the University of Goroka in 2021.
