The National Department of Education (NDOE) has established a task force to investigate the allegations of an extortion racket within its ranks that has been targeting teachers, Post-Courier reports. Education Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, made this announcement in a press conference last Friday (December 15).
Kombra’s response comes after the Post-Courier published a bombshell report last Thursday (December 14) on the case of Ms Nellie Kusari, a young mother and teacher, who was extorted money by officials to facilitate her getting on the department’s payroll.
Dr Kombra condemned the action of alleged officers and said the department has zero-tolerance on corruption. He also advised teachers all over the country who have been the victims of similar incidents to provide evidence so the perpetrators can be held accountable.
Kombra also said the officers found guilty of extortion would be formally handed to the police to be charged and processed.
