Maprik MP Gabriel Kapris has assured a secondary school in his district to fix its sewerage system and water supply.
Speaking during Maprik Secondary School’s 48th graduation for Grade 10s, 11s and 12s recently, Kapris made the commitment by connecting water supply from the town to the school.
I will ask Water PNG engineers this month to carry out a feasibility study and give us the costing for contractors to fix the sewerage system and build a pipeline from the town to the school.

Principal Alfred Akai said the poor sewerage system and inadequate water supply were two main issues that the school had been facing for more than 10 years.
A challenge that we face every day is the sewage issue.
We have resorted to using pit toilets, for students and teachers.

While acknowledging owners of the land where the sewerage system is located, Akai said the issue had been brought to the provincial government’s attention by the school and landowners.
School captain Ben Alford said having a reliable water supply was what the students and teachers needed the most.
When there is no water, we feel like leaving school, but thank God for His blessings by giving us enough water every time our tanks run out.

Kapris also pledged to build a four-in-one classroom building for the school and in other secondary and high schools in the district.
