UPNG student killed while taking shortcut

A male student at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) was stabbed and later died while taking a shortcut to the varsity campus between 7pm – 8pm, Loop PNG reports.

The student whose identity has not been released, is allegedly from East Sepik and was attacked while taking a shortcut from the Waigani Catholic Church to the university’s grounds. The student collapsed in the university staff residential and was rushed to the hospital by the university’s security. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to Metropolitan Superintendent Gideon Ikumu, two (2) suspects have been arrested and locked up the the Waigani police station cells.

The body of the deceased is now at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) morgue.
