4 arrested for destroying school property in Manus

Police in Manus have arrested four suspects for causing damage to a new double classroom on Andra Island in the Pomotu-Kurti Andra Rural (PNKA) local level government.

Provincial police commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu, said the suspects were drunk at the time and caused damage to the classroom.

The incident occurred on Thursday night between 6pm and 9pm.

Chief Insp Yapu said the classroom was funded by the Manus district and was ready to be officially opened when the incident occurred.

He said people should respect school buildings as they are where their children will be taught.

What the schools have done to the school is a disgrace and disrespectful to the Andra community and the division of education in the province. The four suspects will appear in court tomorrow (Tuesday).
