Joint Media Statement from DHERST & IBSUniversity

We, the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) and IBSUniversity (IBSU), hereby notify the general public that IBSUniversity is now registered as a private university in Papua New Guinea (PNG) under the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act of 2014 (As Amended)(HEGPA 2014).

After undergoing a rigorous compliance process against the National Standards for Higher Institutional Registration, IBSUniversity is now recognised and registered as a private university.

DHERST acknowledges that prior to complete formalization of the university status, the IBSUniversity has been issuing qualifications to students who are now employed both in the public and private sector.

As such, according to the registration, all stakeholders, including employers of graduates, higher education institutions, and the general public, are informed that:

  1. IBSUniversity, as a member of the Higher Education Sector in Papua New Guinea, is allowed to develop, confer and award qualifications of all levels according to the Papua New Guinea National QualificationsFramework (PNGNQF);
  2. All qualifications attained from IBSUniversity prior to its complete formalisation and from here on, are protected under HEGPA 2014 (As Amended) and are formally recognised by the government, industry, employers of graduates, professional bodies, and the general public.

We would like to thank the IBSU students association, alumni, parents and sponsors of students for their unwavering and continued support.
