School denies ‘wild spree’ allegations

Morobe’s Dregerhafen Secondary School administration has denied allegations regarding a ‘wild spree’ by its students after last week’s national examinations.

The administration in a circular stated that the recent media report on students attacking police with wire-catapults and damaging school property had tarnished the school’s reputation along with that of the provincial education board.

The school administration maintained that the incident had occurred outside of the school campus and no school property was in fact damaged.

The school did confirm that several drunk students had been making noise and behaving in a rowdy manner but a police patrol had arrested two students.

Finschhafen education manager Simon Shong confirmed through an assessment and inspection carried out at the alleged site and found none of the reported damage to be true.

Provincial education adviser Keith Tangui said that based on the reports provided to the PEB by the school, the students had gotten drunk outside of the school premises.

Tangui said that it was now a police matter.

Those concerned students would not be affected academically because what they did was after the exam.

I should be consulted so that the report is published according to confirmed facts because such reports tarnish the name of the province, the school and the education sector as a whole.
